Raymond Robinson Mellott, Jr. of Bremerton, WA passed away on July 25, 2016, after an extended illness surrounded by his family at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
 
Ray was born November 13, 1943 in Chambersburg, PA to Raymond R and Lena Shives Mellott.  He grew up and went to school in rural Pennsylvania and joined the US Navy in 1961.  He served for four years in the early Vietnam era aboard the USS Yorktown as a flight crewman.  Near the end of his military service, he met and married Abigail Lee in Pasadena, CA.  They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Following his time in the service, the couple and their young daughter moved back to Pennsylvania where their three sons were born.  In 1979, the family relocated to Bremerton.
 
During his career, Ray was employed in auto repair, at Sears as an appliance repairman, and as a contract Navy instructor for Information Spectrum in Pennsylvania.  He also attended Penn State for a time, utilizing the GI Bill. Following the move to Washington, he worked at Weir’s Appliance in Bremerton before being employed at Subase Bangor for Pan Am, United and ultimately civil service as an electronics technician.
Ray was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter, and fisherman who loved the outdoors.  He was a fan of the blues, jazz, bluegrass, country and classic rock.  Earlier in life, he was a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, but after moving to Washington became a dedicated fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks.
 
Ray is survived by his wife, Abigail; one daughter, Marge and husband Ron Hall of Rio Rancho, NM; three sons, Raymond Mellott III and wife Kari of Seattle, Andrew Mellott of Bremerton, Danny Mellott and wife Meagan of Seattle; three grandchildren, Tom Hall of Colorado Springs, CO, Jake Hall of Albuquerque, NM, and Lydia Mellott of Seattle; and, his mother Lena Mellott of Sanford, FL.  He is preceded in death by his father Raymond R Mellott, Sr.
 
A Celebration of Life for Ray was held on August 13, 2016, at 11:00 am at Chico Alliance Church in Bremerton, 3670 Chico Way NW, Bremerton, WA 98312.  Memorial donations may be made to charities supporting diabetes or cancer research.
